1st Term Achievements

Participation and Accountability

• Prepared a five year development plan for the constituency, based on a workshop of over 100 participants representing citizens associations, JAS, parish council, police and fire departments, etc.
• Held similar consultations each year to determine Constituency Development Fund (CDF) spending priorities.
• Issued 12 Reports to Constituents highlighting the work of the MP in Parliament and in the Constituency. These are distributed physically as well as being available on the website and Facebook page.

Parliament

• Chaired Economy and Production Committee, which reviewed operations of the bauxite/alumina sector. Currently chairs Internal and External Affairs Committee reviewing the law enforcement process.
• Participates actively in the legislative and policy-making work of Parliament. As Shadow Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting’s voice is fearless and principled speaking against organized crime and the politics/crime nexus. He was particularly strident on the Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke extradition, which resulted in a dramatic drop in crime.

Education & Skills Development

• Built two brand new schools – the Bellefield Primary School and the Anna Miller Basic School.
• Converted the MP’s Office to a Resource/Home Work Centre for constituents. The centre provides computers, free internet access, and printing to constituents. Hundreds of students utilize the facility to do research, schoolwork and printing. Scores of adults have become computer literate by attending Evening Classes at the Resource Centre, staffed by volunteers.
• Contributed to school infrastructure: re-roofing a classroom block at Manchester High School, fencing and provision of water tank for May Day Basic School; completion of Royal Flat Basic School
• Assisted all schools with funding towards their Sports Programme.
• Provided over 1200 (Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary) students with grants towards their tuition fee, uniform, and books.

Health Care

• Lobbied Minister of Health to upgrade Mandeville Regional Hospital to a Type A hospital
• Earmarked $600,000 for the provision of storage facilities at the Mandeville Regional Hospital. (Awaiting release of funds from the Office of the Prime Minister)

Agriculture/Entrepreneurship

• Assisted more than 1200 farmers with: farm tools, seeds & fertilizer, chicken & feed.
• Assisted with capital for small enterprises

Community Development and Welfare

• Resurfaced Roads: Sweden Street, Jones Depot (Belritiro), Rocky Park Road
Land Settlement Road, Land Settlement Loop - construction, Comfort Road, Three Chains, Cow Pen Road, Coke Drive, Albion Rd, Pear Tree to Inverness)
• Supported building supplies to developmental projects across the constituency for Labour Day
• Sponsored the constituency football league (Georges Valley Corner League) for last 4 years
• Assist with development of the Comfort Community Computer Centre
• Hundreds of persons were assisted with Housing and Welfare Grants
